Compression Fractures and Treatments
About compression fractures
Did you know that 1 in 2 women over the age of 50 will suffer from a painful spinal compression fracture at some point in their life? Patients suffer from compression fractures due to osteoporosis, tumors and other complications. Leaving a compression fracture unattended can result in prolonged and debilitating pain that can lead to poor mental and physical health.
The first recommended treatments for compression fractures include conservative therapy like physical therapy, stretching and exercise. However, some patients do not respond or may be in unbearable pain. Vertebral Augmentation or Balloon Kyhoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure proven to significantly relieve pain, increase mobility and improve quality of life without the need for open surgery. In this procedure, a very small incision is made and the collapsed bone is excavated and filled with a bio safe cement. The procedure typically takes less than 15 minutes to complete with a total recovery less than 2 hours. After the procedure, each patient receives one on one recovery care with an Registered Nurse, until deemed safe for discharge.
Since 2014, surgeons at PARS have completed over 300 kyphoplasty procedures in the office setting
